Why I Should Vent on Facebook without getting a Guilt Trip

So, here's the thing.  I think people take for granted that they have someone to come home to to vent about their day, whether it is a husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, etc.  I moved 3,000 miles away from home to a place where I didn't know anyone.  I come home to an empty apartment and have no one to talk to about the good things or the bad things.  So if I want to use Facebook to vent about a really bad day, I think I should be able to do that without getting a bunch of crap from people.  If people don't like my status updates then they can hide me, but I am not going to censor myself when there is no reason to.  People from work are not on my Facebook and no one who is on my friends list even knows what city I live in let alone where I work so I doubt anything I say could possibly get back to them.  I don't use names, I don't post pictures.  Lets not nit-pic on someone who is no longer within your bubble - there are plenty more people that are living more "sinfully" than I am within your reach.

I feel like I have been neglecting this blog.  I promise to be better ... starting tomorrow.  I really need to go to sleep.

Nerd Alert - Laura Ingalls Wilder Home

I had another moment today that made it onto my list of Top Ten Moments.  We went to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home and Museum in Mansfield Missouri.  For those of you who lived in a hole during their childhood or are a boy, Laura Ingalls Wilder is the author of the Little House Books which are about her life growing up in the late 1800's.  These books are the books that my mom introduced me to and really got me into reading for fun.  I grew up on these books and love them dearly.  Anyway, the museum was full of Laura's belongings, many of which were mentioned in the books.  For instance: Pa's fiddle and Almanzo's name card that he gave to Laura when he offered her a ride to the school house.  There were also the original manuscripts hand-written on notebooks.  I read the page that was open and it was from the book "The Shores of Silver Lake" which I had just re-read in preperation for the trip (I re-read the whole series).  It brought tears to my eyes and I know that sounds silly or nerdy or whatever you want to call it, but it was wonderful.

Tomorrow we will explore Chicago at which point I will blog more about our travels, but today was all about Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Travels thus far

So, I promised I would blog about this trip so here it goes.  Our first major stop was Las Vegas where I blasted music from The Hangover.  We were there during the day so I didn't get to see all the lights, but I did see a bunch of drunken fools and slutty girls.  I also had the pleasure of watching lecherous middle aged men check out young girls in very restrictive clothing.  Anyway, my cousin Melissa and I went to the Bellagio to have lunch at a buffet.  We got seated in the awkward section apparently because there was all kinds of drama unfolding.  The first group of people that got seated next to us had a baby in a stroller which kind of blocked the servers access to the table, so she refused to give them drinks.  So, that group moved and then another couple with a kid got seated there and the same thing happened.  The whole time I am wondering why people with children and strollers keep getting seated there.  Oh well.  Anyway, the dad was a total bag full of douche.  He through a hissy fit because his 2 year old daughter is crying.  The poor thing had probably been dragged around Vegas by her selfish dad so he could engage in various acts of debauchery.  So dad takes the little girl outside to discipline her I imagine and poor mom is just sitting there.  When they come back the dad just leaves them to go get food.  Now, I'm all about equality in a relationship, but I think there is something to be said for chivalry.  That SOB totally should have taken care of his wife and child first, not himself.  Ass.  So that was Vegas.

Our next stop was Salt Lake City to stay with my Aunt and Uncle and cousins.  Of course the exit we needed to take was closed which caused us to get lost.  When I get lost I totally become like a guy and hate to ask for directions.  I would much rather try to figure things out, it's like a game.  We did however end of calling a friend so they could mapquest our location for us.  We were both freaking tired and the map kept on moving when I tried to look at it.  Anyway, we made it safe and sound despite all the doubts that we wouldn't be able to make it to Salt Lake from CA in one day.  Well SUCK IT ye of little faith.  We woke up to thunder, children, and chocolate chip pancakes.

Our next stop was Cheyenne, Wyoming.  It was kind of rainy the whole way here, but there would be spots of sunshine.  Wyoming really is a beautiful state.  I loved how green everything is.  You know how you drive on the 5 and ll you see is brown hills of ugliness?  Well, so not like that in Wyoming.  It is freaking cold though.  In Cheyenne we went to the capitol building that had awesome statues providing minutes of entertainment and photo
opportunities.  We also went to this place that had frozen custard which I had heard a lot about and was so excited for.  Total let down.  It just tasted like any Dairy Queen esq ice cream but in a more solid form.  Lame.  Anyway, tomorrow we are off to Springfield, Missouri.  More adventures to come.

My new blog

I have a blog on myspace, but no one seems to go on myspace anymore.  So I made a blog here that I can link to from Facebook.  I also want to use this blog to document my journey to Maryland.  I leave Aug. 14th!  It's coming up and I can't wait for this latest adventure.
